How to sketch out your character pt1
Every Tuesday this blog will be sharing a special insight from a guest blogger – today it is Roland. Roland is the resident Paper Movie Books artist. He is brilliant and will be sharing some basic drawing principles with you.
1. Well, firstly you have to sketch the basic guidelines. This should take around 5 minutes. It’s just rough.
2. Secondly, you start filling in all the details of the face according to the description you’re given or have in your head. If it’s a goofy, good character, keep the edges rounded as it makes him look friendly (even though Sheena made a character that is quite disturbing.) Sharp edges are usually used to draw bad guys.
3. Clean your lines with a light table and viola! You have the disturbing looking goblin hero.
4. With goofy characters its best to accentuate the features that make them goofy. In this case the ears, nose and eyes – but this was already stipulated in my brief
In next week Tuesday’s blog I will begin the inking and colouring phase. You will be amazed by the awesomeness that colour adds.
On Thursday we will be presenting the next blog on writing.
