It seems most upcoming comic artists don’t put emotion into their character in order to tell the story better. You should be able to tell what’s going on in the story without text.

If you can, you’ve done the job right. In order to illustrate this I have created a few pics of our gnome character going through emotional changes and his expressions when he experiences them. Have a look and tell me what you think.

Tip: It is easier to do fun emotions in faces of ugly characters.
